After months of testing and polishing, the development team behind Ashes of Creation is pleased to announce that the latest version of the world builder is now available for playtesting. The latest build is a major step forward in the development process, with over a dozen major gameplay changes in the works. Here are the highlights: ~
The Elysium team is currently busy developing the game’s Planetside 2-style PVP mode, and they are working hard on it. The game is set to be released in 2017. In the meantime, the team is preparing to put the Planetside 1 PVP mode to good use.
This week, we’re talking about the next steps in testing. We wanted to touch base and give you all an update on what Ashes of Creation is doing with the game and how we are iterating on the gameplay and building the game. Ashes of Creation is marching towards August like clockwork with its July development update livestream, and like clockwork, the broadcast offers enough for sandbox MMORPG fans to take in.
At the opening of the show, creative director Steven Sharif discussed what would happen once the game’s Alpha One playtest was completed. Spot testing for certain levels of supporters will continue after Alpha One concludes on August 13th, although Sharif adds that there will be “substantial downtime” between tests as the developers learn from the alpha and improve the game. Although no specific dates were given, Sharif did say that the outage would last “many months.”
Before that, however, there’s a new melee combat feature coming to the Alpha One test this week, which will replace the “rooted” melee combat movement — in which basic attacks saw the player character slide forward slightly with every weapon swing — with a more directionally controlled series of melee swings, similar to the combat seen in the Apocalypse. By default, players will be able to switch between these two methods by pressing the comma key, and the developers expect to have found the perfect mix of user input feedback and weapon impact and weight.
The rest of the stream provided the usual peeks at a variety of concept artworks and design pieces featuring Sharif’s deeply involved description of the Terror Bird mount (“This is a bird. And he’s definitely a terror.”) along with a round of player Q&A. Ashes of Creation is a brand new MMO from Trion Worlds that has been generating a lot of buzz in the gaming community lately. This is because the game is dedicated to doing a lot of things differently from other MMOs. Mainly the game will feature a unique hybrid combat system that combines elements from both action games and MMOs. You will also be able to craft your own weapons and gear right in game, and will be able to fly around the world in a ship of your own design..
