In a surprise announcement, LucasArts announced yesterday the release of classic LucasArts games will be available to play this summer. The games will be available through Amazon’s new streaming service, Amazon Prime Gaming.

With the majority of the gaming world currently preoccupied with new releases, it’s easy to overlook the classic games that have already graced the shelves. The LucasArts collection of older games, however, has been updated to work with the new Amazon Prime Video service. This means that, starting this summer, Prime users can experience all of the classic LucasArts games that they love once again. To celebrate, they’ve brought over the entire collection of games, including hits like Maniac Mansion, Loom, and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge.

This summer, the Prime subscription service is bringing back a trio of classic LucasArts video games for a three-week run.  These are classic games that are out of print, but they’ve never been available on the service for some reason — for a while they were unavailable even on the PC.  The three games in question are the first three Star Wars games, and the first three Indiana Jones games.  I’ve known about these games for years, but I’ve never had a chance to play them.

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, Sam and Max: Hit The Road and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis will all be available from Prime Gaming this summer.

The Secret of Monkey Island: In the special edition, players take the role of naive hero Guybrush Threepwood, who wants to discover the secret of Monkey Island. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is based on the popular film series and once again the heroic archaeologist Indiana Jones tries to prevent Nazi agents from getting their hands on a dangerous weapon. Finally, Sam and Max: In Hit The Road, Shamus Sam the dog and Max the hyperkinetic rabbit are looking for a snowman that has escaped from a carnival.
